I was reading a Time magazine article in the last few days and found that there is a thing called a skype phone that was sweeping the internet.You would be amazed what these two bright sparks did to make themselves a small fortune, they sold it to ebay.So why am I getting so pumped up?.It is called voice over ip.This idea of calling someone for nothing over the internet is not an original one.

So all you have is rig up a phone to your pc and you can see and talk to anyone anywhere in the world using skipe.It is essentail you get a rapid connection as quickly as you can.Video is still in its infancy so you wont always get a good picture.

So I went on Ebay and yes you guessed it, they are peddling phones already due to skyp.I guess it's been around for about a year already but it's catching on fast..

The bigger commercial telecom firms are beginning to sell voice over internet protocol packages.All the telecom experts are watching voip closely thinking that maybe it will crash and burn.Will the www spell the end for voice over ip.

If previous experience is anything to go by then we can expect the big players to examine voip in minute detail.The most likely scenario is that the federal govt will want a slice of the action by regulation.Skype are charging to make phone calls to cell phones and local regular phones, and that's called skyping out,etc.

The next big thing which voip are making a cheeky move towards is the idea of web conferencing. With 911 happenning relatively recently more people want to travel less and less so it is a great opportunity for voip to put video conferencing back on the map.

My opinion is that audio and video over the net, especially over a broadband connection will gain in popularity.Everything says that audio and video will be the next biggest thing since sliced bread.

The next decade will be make or break for the world of voip and only the consumers will tell us whether the free skype download is worth shouting home about.We will know fairly soon how it performs .
